  DIGNIMAGE - AFRICA

The project
The main objective of the DignImage project (the combination of the words Dignity and Image) is to offer Africa’s youth opportunities by introducing them to photography. They will be able to express themselves and show the world their vision of Africa by posting their pictures on the Web and also displaying prints. Portions of all revenues would go towards their education and future.

After our volunteer experience in an orphanage in Guatemala, October 2005, we decided that we wanted to do it again, but in a different way. That’s why we decided to create the DignImage project, and try to help children in Africa with a new concept.
From the end of January 2007 until December 2007, we will be in Africa. We will combine this activity with the exploration of the continent. We would like to do this project in two countries, Senegal and Madagascar.

Objectives

· To introduce children to photography, help them to express themselves through their own photographs and help them learn French.

·  To permanently expose the children’s pictures in a community centre in their own village.

·  To help the children to be proud of themselves, to make joy and dignity a part of their live.

·  To help the children to raise money by selling their own photographs.

·  To unite all the villagers in a common event.

·  To return to Canada and display photographs for the public and offer Canadian students an opportunity to compare their life styles with those of African children.
